The Prime Minister Research Fellowship (PMRF) scheme is likely to be offered to just 135 candidates out of 1,000 fellowship positions.
Meanwhile, the online registration for Prime Minister's Research Fellowship (PMRF) was held from February 24 and to March 31.
After launching the scheme, the Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar in February said that the Prime Minister Research Fellowship scheme for 1,000 BTech students for pursuing PhD courses at IITs and IISc will help convert brain drain into brain gain.
As per reports, the Union Cabinet had approved the scheme at a cost of Rs 1,650 crore for a period of seven years, beginning in 2018-19.

As per the data released by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad, out of the 2,035 applicants interviewed across 18 disciplines, about 135 have been offered direct admission to PhD programmes in IISc and IITs in Mumbai, Delhi, Madras, Kharagpur, Kanpur, Roorkee, Guwahati, Hyderabad and Gandhinagar, as reported by Indian Express.
