New Delhi: Union Public Service Commission, UPSC successfully conducted the UPSC Civil Services Prelims 2018 Examination today on June 3, Sunday. The Civil Services Examination has two papers – Paper 1 that was conducted from 9.30 to 11.30 am. The Paper 2 was scheduled to start from 2.30 pm. Paper 1 consisted of 100 questions and constituted 200 marks. The most number of questions were from History, Art and Culture section, i.e. 19. Followed by 17 from Economy, 14 each from Economy and Environment Ecology, 12 from Geography and 24 Miscellaneous questions from Science and Technology, Current Affairs, etc.
Students found Paper 2, CSAT to be tougher than the General Studies GS Paper 1. Some students termed the CSAT Paper 2 to be too lengthy. On a whole, UPSC Civil Services Prelims 2018 was reported by the students to be tougher than the last year’s examination. On being asked about the difficulty level and examination pattern, examinees from different centres reported that the pattern of the question paper was unchanged, however, there were some surprising elements like questions from unexpected areas.
In the Indian Polity section, a question based on Lok Sabha came as a shocker to the candidates as questions pertaining to this particular topic were never asked before in the examination, spoke so a student to TOI. A question based on a document published by National Sample Survey Organisation, NSSO four years ago has surfaced to cause quite a stir among the candidates.
The cut off is being speculated by our experts to drop this year. Last year, it was 105.34 for General category candidates. The Civil Services Mains Examination is scheduled to be conducted on October 1, 2018. Only the candidates who qualify the preliminary examination would be able to appear for mains.
Civil Services UPSC examination is conducted by the Commission to recruit officers at different administrative positions in All India Services including IAS, IPS, IFS, IRS, IRTS and other departments of Govt. of India. The selection is done in three rounds – Prelims, Mains and Interview.
